With steps forward, I embarked on my journey to reconnect with the system of Reiki by joining the Shinpiden Level III class with Frans Stiene in New York. In anticipation of the class, I questioned my readiness. So for all the Precept Today’s I processed, worry presented itself. It was clear to me that I was stepping in the right direction to truly understand and absorb the system of Reiki. It was easy to put my trust in Frans, but the anticipation – worry – was ever present in the concern to be in the right place. Those emotions quickly dissipated as I sat together with a beautiful group of individuals that presented openness, compassion and the invitation for me to feel safe and trust my surroundings and myself. My feet were on the ground, and my concerns disappeared. So, as it began For Today, I was not anxious and did not worry. There were many metaphors, stories and words strung into sentences that Frans shared that resonated with me and that I have shared with people who questioned.

“What did you do in that class; what did you learn?”
“I connected to my Inner Divine Being and embodied my Great White Light.”
“What? What does that mean.”
“It means that the light is within all of us, if we change the perspective. Frans explained, and I will share with you.. perspective is how we decide what to focus on each day. Do you focus on the clouds or the light? If you had a watering can, do you water your negative thoughts, your fear, your anxiety, and your worry and embody these emotions and let them grow or can you make a different choice of what to water and let grow? Because what we water grows. Every day you face obstacles, things that upset or disturb you, but consider this… we cannot control what others do or what happens in the world, but we can control how we react and then act. Often we think negatively, we criticize ourselves, others or situations, but if we are aware that thoughts have layers and that those layers disconnect us from everything, then we are allowing ourselves to be disconnected. If we can reach down and clear the fog in our thoughts and stop the storm from rolling in, then we can see clearly and be open. If we can do that then we allow our light to shine through. If your light shines you can then find the space to be compassionate and kind to yourself, and then as you engage with others that kindness and compassion can touch someone else’s light and then the universe shines.”
“You learned all of that in three days?”
“Oh, I learned more than what I have just shared with you, but his words give us pause for contemplation.”
“What Frans shared you have now shared with me, but he also shared it with the group. So, when the group shares it, and we all contemplate it and embody it then there is a great deal of light that will shine. That’s incredible. Wow. Thank you for sharing and making me aware.”
“You can thank me, but really we need to thank Frans.”
“Thank you Frans.”

How beautifully written, Jodi! You have encapsulated succinctly the essence of Frans’ teachings. Thank you for sharing your “human-ness” and being honest about some of your worries before the class began. It is so wonderful to be able to share these teachings with people in our everyday lives.
