Congratulations to the 5 winning entries of the FREE AUDIOBOOK OF “BEGINNING REIKI, BEGINNING HEALING” competition.
Read how our winners explained how they like to use the Reiki Precepts in everyday life to make the world a better place.
I like to use the “do not anger” and “work diligently” principles at work to show my coworkers and colleagues that we can choose how we engage with work. Certainly there will be stress and disappointments when our bosses give us another project, but we can choose our reaction to such events. If we can consciously engage our work, we can learn how to consciously engage other aspects of life without anger, fear or worry. If we can move from that clear place and model that behavior for others, we can change the world.

I use the Reiki Precepts in everyday life to make the world a better place in the following ways. Gandhi suggested that “If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him … We need not wait to see what others do.” Using the breathing techniques Usui-Sensei taught us along with the Precepts bring the self-healing offered in Shoden and Okuden together. When I breathe, I relax my Body and build my immunity, lower my blood pressure and increase my energy and so I am healthier. In turn my Mind relaxes and I begin to have the space I need to examine my emotions and let go anger and worry. It is a cycle, the Body is healthier, the Mind is more peaceful. Having nourished my Heart/Mind I live more easily with what the Tao Te Ching calls the “10,000 things” and I can be more Compassionate and offer myself and others Loving Kindness and Compassion. This is recognised by others as they see how I respond rather than react to everyday events and challenges and they want to begin their own change. I am grateful for all the experiences I have, pain and pleasure are both good teachers. As I am One with the Cosmos, (The Cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the Universe to know itself.” Carl Sagan) then I am also having some effect on that too.

I recite or chant the precepts in Japanese every day baring in mind their meaning. The mind of the ego is a very busy place. When anger, worry, pride, self-congratulations, self-criticism and the like rear their head and I remember the relevant Precept, its firm hold begins to lose its grip. Sometimes nothing appears to change, at other times, the Precepts have the power to transform the situation. It is an ongoing process. I feel the Precepts have become my trusted friend. They help cut through the dross and the false image of me and mine.

It is and always has been my belief that our children are the way to make the world a better place. For the last 2 years I have been a Substitute Lead Teacher in Childcare Facilities (ages 6 weeks old to 4 years) throughout San Antonio, Texas. Everyday I use the Reiki Precepts when working with these children by being Reiki everyday with every child. Being Happy. Being calm. Being respectful. Teaching love, kindness, gentleness, happiness by just being. And most importantly keeping these children safe until their parents or guardians pick them up at the end of each day.

Every morning after the self healing (which is definitely needed) I then visualise the core people in my life, ..hold them in reiki love, then expand that into friends, and if there’s time give them more thought before sending reiki love. After that there’s friends who are not well, and some very ill, and then there’s the people I don’t know who are ill and suffering. Then comes the biggie! – the world, the whole planet . I hold it and can feel only a fraction of it’s beauty and pain. .. but hold it with compassion and love.
Then I put my hands together and thank the universe for being a part of it.
This takes up to an hour and is a beautiful, and sometimes painful, ritual. I hope and believe that it makes me a better person, and that seeds grow !
Balance, letting go of anger and worry, true honesty, humbleness, compassion, humour. All things to work at eh !?
