Below you find two very specific Japanese teachings based on interconnectedness and non-duality.
「一切唯心造(いっさいゆいしんぞう)」
この世の全ては、心が造り出す。
逆に思わないことは、存在しない。
“Everything is created by the mind.”
Everything in this world is created by the mind.
Conversely, what is not thought of does not exist.
三界唯一心 心外無別法 心仏及衆生是三無差別
“The Three Realms are but one mind; outside of the mind, there is no other dharma (phenomenon). The Mind, the Buddha, and sentient beings—these three are without difference.”
In Japanese esoteric traditions, this state of mind is the base of all of their teachings. Plus in these esoteric traditions this state of mind is essential for Kaji-Kito. Kaji-Kito, which is like reiju and healing within the system of Reiki.
This specific state of mind is all about oneness – non-duality: that we are Reiki and that everything is Reiki.
“Everything in the universe contains Reiki” – Mikao Usui, in the booklet Kokai Denju Setsumei (first copy is said to be from 1922.)
Mikao Usui pointed out this state of mind very clearly in his teachings. Let’s look at the symbol/mantra hon sha ze sho nen 本者是正念 for example. This literally translates as: my original nature is a state of mind of oneness, or my original nature is non-dual mind.
We also can see this state of mind in the Reiki precepts: if we do not think about something specific, then automatically we have no anger and no worry. And therefore we stay kind and compassionate.
Within the Reiki precepts we can see the word today, and this also points out that today we are already one with the whole universe.
This points to something very important, no need to connect to Reiki, as we are already it. And no need to protect yourself for “negative” energy because we can not say, I am the universe but not with that “negative” energy over there, or not with that person: impossible. Plus, who thinks that something is, or someone has “negative” energy? The mind. It is all in the mind and that is why the Reiki precepts are all about the mind.
“In addition to the changes that kaji confers on the practitioner, it also has healing qualities. In both ancient and modern times, kaji healing has been performed to assist a person who is ill.” – Eijun Eidson
When we realize this deep interconnectedness, that we are Reiki – the whole universe – then we can use this state of mind to help others realize this state too.
“This is because the source of reiki, the agent of this therapy, must be sought in the proper heart and mind. The power to treat disease is thus a by product of becoming a better person. The healing of diseases with this therapy is secondary.” – Reiki and the Benevolent Art of Healing by Tomita Kaij published in 1933.
It is thus of utmost importance to make sure we have a direct experience of this state of mind of oneness – nonduality. Even if we first have a glimpse of it during attunement/reiju or our meditation practice, then we can start to recognize it again and again until we can Be Reiki in all we do, today.
