“True compassion is undirected and holds no conceptual focus. That kind of genuine, true compassion is only possible after realizing emptiness.” – Tsoknyi Rinpoche
The essence of the system of Reiki is love and compassion. We can see this clearly within the precepts
Do not anger
Do not worry
Be grateful
Be true to your way and your being
Show compassion to yourself and others
When we soften our anger and worry, we start to slowly become more compassionate and loving.
And the deepest layer of love and compassion is revealed when we are loving and compassionate from a non-dualistic state of mind, a state of mind of emptiness. This is what, as practitioners and teachers of the system of Reiki, we need to embody more and more.
But what does love and compassion from a non-dualistic state of mind mean?;
It means simply this: that I am you and you are me. Thus there is nothing to give – no giver, no receiver and no gift. It also means that there is no “distance”, nothing to bridge, nothing to send. All of this frees us up from the idea that we need to heal something; in this space of freedom, we can be completely open and expanded with no conceptual focus. This in turn allows our love and compassion to flow more freely, within and without, removing any divisions or barriers our minds may create.
Love and compassion within the system of Reiki is love and compassion without any strings attached to it. Without any idea of an outcome, without labeling, judging, and distinguishing. Letting go of these strings sets us free, free to just shine.
The more we teach or learn practices in which we distinguish “ourselves” from “others”, the more we see that we are all separate. The more we see this separation, feeling a distance which we need to bridge, the harder it will be to be in a non-dual loving and compassionate state of mind.
This is why the symbols and mantras, the meditations, hands-on healing, the precepts, and the reiju are all there, to help us to lay bare this non-dual state of love and compassion, so that we have a direct experience of oneness and of being Reiki. And in this state of non-dual love and compassion, we can just shine. When we just shine there is no need to direct anything, no need to focus on something, we just Be Reiki, be the great bright light of love and compassion.
