Reiki and Buddhism

Hosted by filmmaker Yujiro Seki, Carving the Divine TV is a series of Q&A sessions with Buddhist scholars and practitioners. These Q&A sessions explore the basic concepts of Buddhism, the history of Buddhism and of course Buddhist sculptures/sculptors (bustuzo/busshi) so that when viewers finally watch the documentary Carving the Divine – Buddhist sculptors of Japan, they will get the maximum value of the documentary.

Today, we will be talking about something different.  We will explore Reiki in relation to Buddhism.  Actually, I’ve heard the word “Reiki” everywhere in Western World, so it is evident that Reiki is becoming more popular there.   In contrast to the popular belief that reiki is merely hands-on healing technique, Reiki incorporates Japanese spiritual practices, such as Shinto and Buddhism.  Yes, it’s the whole system.  Today our guest Reiki Master Frans Stiene can give us a little taste of Reiki and how Reiki draws its spiritual practices from Buddhism.  Let’s learn something new together.

We will be asking important questions such as:
What is Reiki?
What is the relationship between Reiki and Buddhism?
What is the benefit of practicing Reiki?
What is hands-on healing?
Can you give us some Reiki demonstrations?

Frans Stiene has been a major influence on global research into the system of Reiki since the early 2000s. His practical understanding of the Japanese influences on the system have allowed students around the world to connect deeply with this practice. Frans is a co-founder of the International House of Reiki. He has co-authored the critically acclaimed books The Reiki Sourcebook, The Japanese Art of Reiki, A-Z of Reiki Pocketbook, and Your Reiki Treatment. His own books are The Inner Heart of Reiki – Rediscovering Your True Self, Reiki Insights, and his new book The Way of Reiki will be out later this year. Since 2012 Frans has been studying and training with a priest in Japan.

    Great interview!

Long time Buddhist practitioner. Just discovered Reiki in Hawaii out of necessity.

    Very powerful experiences.

I am now very curious about Reiki.

Which Tulku did you refer to?
