Inclusivity and the system of Reiki 3

“Dualism is the real root of our suffering and of all our conflicts.”

– Namkhai Norbu

Inclusivity is a state of being where we include everything, not just separate groups, people, or things. We include everything and everyone, with open minds and open hearts.

To be inclusive we need to be open minded so that we can include everything within our practice of the system of Reiki, without exclusions that are based on perceptions, comparisons or opinions.

“Outwardly, the dualistic expressions of self, others, and diverse perceived objects and their characteristics appear to ordinary beings. Inwardly, however, there is no duality.” – Garchen Rinpoche

But being open minded is not easy; often we may feel left out or not a part of a certain group or community. This is often due to, for example, anger. We may be angry with a certain group of people for behaving in a certain way. But as we see within the system of Reiki, we have to be compassionate.

True compassion is being inclusive. And therefore to be inclusive we need to let go of our anger and worry. While not so easy, doing this opens our heart to compassion, gratitude, and our true self.

“As soon as dualistic grasping arises and phenomena are perceived as two, luminosity is absent.” – Garchen Rinpoche

Therefore the system of Reiki as a whole is not about creating exclusivity but about creating inclusivity. This is why it is so important to see what kind of seed we are planting for the future. If we plant a seed of exclusivity we create division and when we create division we also create anger and worry. Why? We might do this because we see everything as separate units. And then it becomes us versus them.

Therefore we have to plant the seed of inclusivity, which is compassion and kindness, which is non-duality. Because it is through this realization that we rediscover our luminosity.

“Interrupt the dualistic mind, so that you are at peace, in a way of being that is more and more open, effortless and light. We all need this form of lightness and spaciousness in life. Let a kindness that gives space be your natural atmosphere.” — Erik Pema Kunsang

All these real teachers, like Mikao Usui, point this out too. They remind us to interrupt the dualistic mind so that we become more and more open minded, filled with effortlessness and light. We become more open hearted, filled with kindness and compassion.

This is also what the precepts point out:

Do not anger

Do not worry

Be grateful

Be true to your way and your being

Show compassion to yourself and others

The precepts describe this inclusivity, this non-dual open minded state. To live the precepts in our daily life is to live a life of kindness, effortlessness, and luminosity.

However, we divide and divide: this and that, human and animal, man and woman, vegan and meat eaters, here and there, etc… But the more we do this, the more we focus on this, the more we are planting the seed of division. And from the seed of division will grow the fruit of division and not inclusivity. We reap what we sow. What we tend, grows.

Therefore to grow inclusivity, non-duality, kindness, luminosity, the embodiment of the precepts, we have to plant and cultivate the seed of inclusivity. What are you planting?
