handhealing

Placing the hands on the body as self-treatment or to help others is yet another aspect to healing within the system of Reiki. There are many ideas about hands-in healing and we have discussed some in our other blogs. Today we’d like to hear from you.

Our question: What do you think is the most important element when performing hands-on healing on others?

I have the clearest intent to give the person healing enegry for their highest good, the universe’s highest good and for my highest good.

I am the conduit for the Universe and Reki is its gift to us.

To understand that ALL is energy and as we are part of the ALL reconnect to this Source together with a strong connection to the one requiring the healing.  Then trust that once the intent is stated that all will happen as it should.

I go by the feelings that one might have for the person that is being healed. I feel their love in their heart and that is when I can heal people, hands on or off. I let my people guide me.

Knowing that Reiki works. Not always the way we anticipate it to work. Do the treatment, let go of all expectations and trust that the best outcome will occur. This together with unconditional love and acceptance. Every situation has a purpose.

Yes, as mentioned, intent is important – to hold the intent that Reiki will work for the highest good of all (myself included) and that we all be open to receive, with no expectations but love and acceptance.

    Hi All,

Fantastic stuff, if I read your comments correctly we can say:

*Your intent needs to be clear, a pure direct state of mind to be able to set a clear intent.
*Being Focused, so your mind stays in the same place and is not all over the place.
*No expectations or attachments, which means no worry or hope in your mind.
*Becoming one with your client, you are in a state of mind of non-duality.
*Being in a state of mind of compassion.

First of all we can see that all of these are elements of our own mind. So we are all saying that the mind is the most important!

Now lets take a step backwards, how do we realize this state of mind?

We realize this state of mind of compassion, oneness, non-attachment, clarity and focus through our own personal practice within the system of Reiki.

Therefore if we take another step backwards we can then say that our own personal practice within the system of Reiki is the most important to when performing hands on healing on others, as it is through this that we can be in the right state of mind.

Being unattached to outcome, leaving ego out of it, coming from a place of compassion – if you are doing daily self treatment, these things will happen automatically during hands on healing sessions for others. Staying focused is also important, as others have stated.

The most important element in an effective hands-on session lies in the daily practice of meditation, breath-work, and access to Reiki energy.

To me the most important element of performaning hands-on healing on others is being grounded/centered and allowing the energy to do what the energy is meant to do.  Being one with the experience, free of judgement, free of expectations, and simply setting a clear intent that the client receive all that the client is meant to receive, period!

To me, hands-on Reiki heals because it shows the body that it is loved, loved uncritically, completely, disinterestedly, even at the cellular level. When you put your hands down in this spirit, it may be the first time (in our isolationist, hyper-judgmental, what’s-in-this-for-me society, at least) that the recipient has ever experienced non-judgmental, disinterested love. As many here have said, to be able to transmit this loving energy, you must empty yourself of self—-it’s not about you, your concerns, impressions, feelings of inadequacy or influence, worries about work, etc.—-and simply put your hands down. “Hands on, Reiki on,” as Takata-sensei said. And as you said, Frans, to do this requires that we ground ourselves in our practice, which is ultimately to ground ourselves in life. It is only when we can put our hands down and merge into the other that we can truly heal.

The most important Element is the mediations and personal practice when working with the System of Reiki and hands on healing.  Why? Give it try, you will notice… Blessings , k

Thank YOU, Frans and Bronwen, for providing such a wonderful, informative, interactive forum through your blog, and for making it available to all of us. It is a true gift to all of us who follow the Reiki path. Long may the rain fall, the sun shine, and the flowers grow on it!

Hello Frans and Bronwen.  I feel that the laying on of hands when using Reiki is essential not only for the client but also the practitioner.  This way the client has a feel for the healing touch of the therapist/practitioner, and the therapist receives much information from a simple touch.  So much critical information is given and received through this process.

However, there are some who do not want to have the Reiki therapist place their hands on the body.  So, when not using the hands directly on the body the therapist can zone in on an area(s) in need of vital attention by using practical application of hovering above the client and from the previous experiences and lessons gleaned over time.

As we continue practicing Reiki we find so many ways in how to adjust to the various requirements of the client and ourselves.  Intuition is also integral for the Reiki practitioner in learning the needs of each client as well as the environment around them.

    Aho

As a Usui Shiki Ryoho Master of 23 years and post -member of the Reiki Alliance, the most important factor for me is integrity. We are given a new way to live our lives when we receive the teachings and the initiations handed down from Usui through the lineage. When we learn Reiki, we are agreeing to change the way we live, we agree to use this art in our daily lives ( the precepts, the symbols and self treatment) each level takes us deeper into this way of life with further commitment to the life style it engenders.
If we truly employ what our Master/Teacher’s bring to us on a daily basis, it becomes the way we live our lives and this new way of living can and will bring balance and healing on many levels, first for ourselves then for others. As the old adage states ” healer heal thyself”

    Hi Douglas,

Yes “healer heal thyself” is such an important element and often overlooked.
We need to be remember our true self/reiki first before we can help others find theirs.
